I saw Keir’s post on LinkedIn before Christmas and had to speak to him to understand more about what he’d done. We all know about AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT these days, but did you know there are now custom versions?
🚨 Quick health warning - this is a beta version and should not replace professional advice. Use it to 1) learn about AI, and 2) help cut through some of the noise of the Building Safety Act 🚨
Keir left his role as an architect early in 2023 and has since been running Arka Works, looking and building stuff in the crossover between Architecture and AI - super interesting! He writes about this in a newsletter on LinkedIn - check out the piece on Custom GPT’s using the button below.
So what is this Building Safety Bot…
Keir created a Custom GPT specifically trained on publicly accessible government guidance on the new regs. It has been fed Fire Safety Regulations and supplementary HSE guidance about how CDM regs are impacted by the BSA.
The bot will provide a BSA-informed contextual response to any project query about how the regs apply to a project.
🚨 It’s not a final and definite answer, you will still need to check with the source material and take responsibility for your decisions, but it’s a very helpful navigational aid if you are feeling adrift.
A Custom GPT is fine-tuned for a very specific task and works in a bespoke and domain specific setting to be very good at a precise thing, It might be accessible to the public, exist within a single business or created for individual use.
You’ll need to be a paid user of ChatGPT to use the bot. If that’s a stretch too far right now, watch this demo of the bot in action to get a sense of what it can do.
You are a paid user of ChatGPT, well here’s the link to the bot. Enjoy (don’t thank me, thank Keir!). Make sure you read his newsletter to understand the wider context and specifics of the bot.
